Check Engine Light On? Find Out Before You Buy Parts.

The free code read at a parts counter names a circuit, not a part. Orlando's Finest Mobile Mechanic scans the car, then actually tests the sensor, the wiring, and the systems behind the code. So the part you pay for is the part that was broken.

A trouble code names a circuit, not a part. We test the circuit and replace only what actually failed. So you don't pay twice.

At a glance

  • Flashing light? Stop driving and call
  • Steady light? Usually safe, still needs diagnosis
  • Full scan + live data + physical testing
  • Diagnostic fee credited when we do the repair

Here's how people waste money on a check engine light: the reader says the code mentions an oxygen sensor, so they buy an oxygen sensor. Two weeks later the light is back, because the real problem was a vacuum leak upstream making the sensor read lean. A code is a symptom. We run the scan, read live data and freeze-frame, and then do the physical tests that separate the failed part from the innocent bystander.

When we're done you get the answer in plain English: what's wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether it's safe to keep driving to work while you decide. If we do the repair, the diagnostic visit goes toward the bill.

What the symptom is telling you

Steady check engine lightA fault is stored but the car is usually driveable. It won't fix itself, and Florida heat tends to make marginal parts worse fast.
Flashing check engine lightAn active misfire is dumping raw fuel into the catalytic converter. Pull over and call. A converter costs many times what a misfire does.
Light on, car feels fineVery common with evap-system faults and loose gas caps. Harmless-feeling, but it will hide any new fault that appears behind it.
Light came on, then went offThe fault was intermittent, but the code is still in memory. We can read it after the light clears and catch the problem early.

How the visit works

  1. Full scan

Stored, pending, and history codes from every module. Not just the engine.

  2. Data review

Live sensor data and freeze-frame from the moment the fault set.

  3. Physical testing

Voltage, pressure, smoke, and resistance tests on the suspect circuit.

  4. Plain-English verdict

What failed, what it costs, whether it's safe to drive meanwhile.

What moves the price

We quote after diagnosis and you approve before work starts. But these are the honest variables behind any quote:

  • How intermittent the fault is. A code that only sets on cold mornings takes longer to pin down
  • Whether the fault is electrical (tracing time) or mechanical (test time)
  • Multiple stacked codes: one root cause can light up four codes, or four problems can each set one

What's included

  • Full OBD-II scan. Stored, pending, and history codes
  • Live data and freeze-frame analysis
  • Voltage, pressure, and smoke testing as needed
  • ABS, airbag, and transmission codes too
  • Diagnostic fee credited when we do the repair

Questions we hear about this service

How much does a diagnostic cost?

Call us with the year, make, model, and what the car is doing and we'll quote it straight. If we do the repair, the diagnostic goes toward the total.

Can you clear the light so I pass?

Clearing a code without fixing the fault just turns the light back on later. And the computer remembers. We'd rather find the real problem and fix it once.

Will you just tell me the code for free?

The code alone is worth what the parts store charges for it: nothing. What you're paying for is knowing which part actually failed. That's the part that saves you money.

My mechanic replaced the part and the light came back.

Classic symptom-chasing. We test the circuit behind the code, which is exactly how you avoid paying for the same repair twice.

Can you do emissions-related diagnostics?

Yes. Evap leaks, O2 and cat-efficiency codes, all of it. Florida has no emissions test, but the light still hides new faults behind it.
